OVERVIEW
The Referrals MOA is responsible for ensuring all referrals and diagnostic imaging orders are sent out and/or followed up on, promptly. The Referral MOA will utilize resources available to CAN (Community Access Network), to meet patient needs to the best of their ability. Resources may include Free Clinic specialty resources, UVA Telehealth and/or choosing outside referral sources that meet the patients' needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for scanning patient documents into electronic health records.
- Demonstrates awareness of appropriate confidentiality rules and regulations and acts accordingly.
- Work alongside the clinical department to schedule stat referrals and DI orders.
- Work alongside clinical team to schedule appointments while the patient is in the office.
- Prior Authorizations for referrals or DI when needed.
Open Referral/DI Responsibilities:
o STAT Referrals/DI Orders must be processed the next business day after they are entered. o URGENT Referrals/DI Orders must be processed within 3-5 business days after they are entered. o ROUTINE Referrals/DI Orders must be processed within 5-7 business days after they are entered.
- Pending Referral/DI Responsibilities o All pending referrals/DI orders must be followed up weekly until appointment information is received. o Once the patient has been seen on the informed appointment date, the notes will be requested. § Notes will be requested weekly until received.
- As an MOA, may be asked to assist the front office if needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Warm, outgoing personality, with the ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with people of all backgrounds.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to multi-task and to prioritize work.
- Must have computer knowledge in the use of electronic health records (or databases)
Preferred Qualifications:
1. At least 3 years' experience in medical information management 2. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
