Salary $22.07 - $26.15 Hourly Location Murray Hill Campus (Mount Morris, New York) Job Type Full-Time Job Number 202601226 Department CNR/Nursing 0106 Opening Date 06/30/2026 Closing Date 12/16/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description RESIDENCY- Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application: Livingston County This is specialized clerical work of a moderately complex nature involving the transcription of physician orders and other medical dictation. Work is similar to that found in other clerical series except that these positions require that employees possess a special knowledge gained through previous experience or training in medical terminology and usage. Transcribed material is reviewed upon completion for content, accuracy and correctness. The work is performed under the general direction of the assigned supervising nurse or other facility official with wide leeway allowed for carrying out the details of the work. Supervision of others is not generally a function of this position. A Medical Typist does related work as required. Examples of Duties Operates a typewriter and/or computer in performing duties described below; Types medical documents such as admission records, patient physicals and histories, progress reports and discharge sheets from handwritten notes and transcription tapes; Schedules all appointments for medical and personal services including eye clinic, dental, x-ray, diagnosis, religious services, and appointments to hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices; Composes and types reply letters to requests for routine information; Processes, sorts, indexes, records and files a variety of medical control records and reports using medical terminology; Maintains resident charts in an organized manner; Files laboratory reports, x-ray reports, dictation and other patient related documents in patient charts; Compiles and maintains monthly census of patients admitted and discharged including ages, diagnosis, medical record numbers and length of stay; Assists in the preparation of material for medical conferences and seminars; Checks files and proofreads documents involving medical terminology to verify accuracy and completeness; Serves as receptionist for office, answers telephones and gives out routine information; Operates various office equipment such as dictation/transcription equipment, printers, copiers, etc.; Maintains inventory levels for office supplies and dietary items; Participates in staff meetings as directed; Participates in quality improvement activities; Assists with orientation of new staff as directed; Provides back-up work for other clerical staff as needed; and Performs other related duties as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
: Good knowledge of medical terminology and standard nomenclature of diseases; good knowledge of English grammar, spelling and vocabulary; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to keyboard accurately from handwritten draft or transcription tapes at an acceptable rate of speed; ability to understand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructions; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; accuracy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Typical Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # 1 2 Training/Education Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma and completion of a one year medical secretarial course. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma. General experience None required. One year of full-time paid experience in a hospital, laboratory, medical doctor's office or similar health care facility which shall have included transcription of medical dictation; OR One year of full-time, paid experience providing direct or non-direct nursing services which shall include making entries in computerized patient records.
