Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic ophthalmology team as an Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Scribe, where you'll play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while supporting the clinical team with accurate documentation and efficient workflow. This energetic position offers an exciting opportunity to combine technical skills with patient interaction, ensuring each individual receives thorough eye care in a compassionate environment. You will be responsible for assisting with patient intake, capturing vital signs, maintaining medical records, and supporting ophthalmic procedures—all while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Your enthusiasm and attention to detail will contribute to a smooth-running clinic that prioritizes quality, accuracy, and patient satisfaction. Responsibilities Prepare examination and treatment rooms for patient visits and procedures. Obtain and document comprehensive patient medical and ocular histories, including chief complaints, medications, allergies, and relevant health information. Perform basic and routine ophthalmic testing, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, pupil assessments, refractions, visual fields, OCT imaging, and other diagnostic testing as directed. Accurately scribe physician-patient encounters in real time within the EMR, documenting histories, examination findings, assessments, treatment plans, and patient instructions. Review appointment schedules, complete required forms, update patient records, and ensure documentation accuracy and completeness. Administer ophthalmic medications and assist physicians with minor office procedures. Clean, calibrate, and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment. Maintain adequate inventory levels and stock clinical supplies as needed. Complete patient education as applicable. Facilitate communication between patients, physicians, and clinical staff to support efficient clinic operations. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Assist with patient flow, room turnover, and other clinical support duties as assigned. Requirements Proven experience in medical office settings or clinic environments, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other healthcare software platforms Excellent communication skills for clear intake interviews and detailed documentation as a Medical Scribe Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times Basic understanding of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic services is advantageous Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail Join us in making a difference by providing top-tier eye care through your technical expertise, compassionate approach, and dedication to excellence!
