Resident Care Services Position Summary The Medication Technician/Caregiver is responsible for assisting residents with medication administration, activities of daily living, and personal care services while promoting resident independence, dignity, and quality of life. This position works under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator and Health & Wellness Director and complies with all Laurel Oaks policies, physician orders, and Michigan Homes for the Aged (HFA) regulations. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMedication Administration Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians and authorized practitioners. Accurately document medication administration in QuickMAR and facility documentation systems. Observe residents for medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in condition. Report medication concerns, refusals, errors, and resident condition changes immediately. Assist with medication inventory, medication ordering, and refill requests. Maintain medication cart security and proper medication storage practices. Complete narcotic counts and medication reconciliation procedures according to facility policy. Communicate with pharmacies, physicians, hospice providers, and home health agencies as directed. Resident Care Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulation, transfers, and dining assistance. Respond promptly to call lights and resident requests. Assist with mobility, fall prevention interventions, and resident safety measures. Encourage resident independence while providing appropriate support. Provide compassionate, resident-centered care at all times. Monitoring and Reporting Observe residents and promptly report changes in physical, mental, emotional, or behavioral status. Monitor for signs of illness, injury, pain, skin concerns, dehydration, or safety risks. Report incidents, accidents, falls, and unusual occurrences according to facility policy. Participate in resident care planning and interdisciplinary communication. Documentation Complete required charting accurately and timely. Document medication administration, resident observations, and care provided. Complete incident reports and shift communication reports as required. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Safety and Compliance Follow all Laurel Oaks policies and procedures. Adhere to Michigan HFA regulations and resident rights requirements. Utilize infection control practices and universal precautions. Participate in emergency response procedures including fire, severe weather, elopement, and medical emergencies. Attend required trainings, in-services, and competency evaluations. Teamwork Maintain professional relationships with residents, families, coworkers, physicians, hospice providers, and vendors. Assist team members as needed to ensure quality resident care. Participate in shift reports and staff meetings. Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment. QualificationsRequired High School Diploma or GED. Ability to successfully complete facility medication administration training and competency evaluation. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Preferred Previous experience in assisted living, memory care, long-term care, or healthcare settings. Previous Medication Technician or CNA experience. Experience with electronic medication administration records (eMAR/QuickMAR). CPR and First Aid Certification. Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift, push, pull, and transfer residents safely. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach. Ability to respond quickly during resident emergencies.
