Certified Medication Technician / Direct Care Staff Job Summary TLW Transformation Center is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and qualified Certified Medication Technician / Direct Care Staff member to join our residential care team. This position plays an essential role in ensuring that the youth in our care receive medications safely and accurately while also receiving consistent supervision, emotional support, structure, and assistance with daily living activities. The ideal candidate will be trauma-informed, attentive to detail, and committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for girls ages 7-17. Essential Responsibilities Medication Administration Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications accurately and according to physician orders, medication administration records, facility policies, and applicable state regulations. Verify the correct youth, medication, dosage, route, and administration time before providing medication. Document all medication administration promptly and accurately in the Medication Administration Record. Monitor youth for medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, changes in behavior, or other health concerns. Immediately report medication errors, missed doses, refusals, adverse reactions, or discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor and medical professional. Maintain medication security by ensuring all medications are properly stored, labeled, counted, and secured. Complete medication counts and shift-to-shift medication reconciliation as required. Monitor medication supplies and notify the appropriate team member when medications or medical supplies require refilling. Maintain the confidentiality of all medical and personal information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. Follow all medication-management procedures established by TLW Transformation Center, DFPS, HHSC Child Care Regulation, and other applicable regulatory authorities. Direct Care and Youth Supervision Provide direct supervision, support, and guidance to youth in a residential treatment environment. Maintain proper staff-to-youth ratios and remain attentive and actively engaged throughout the assigned shift. Assist youth with daily routines, including hygiene, grooming, meals, school preparation, chores, recreation, appointments, and bedtime routines. Support each youth's individualized service plan, treatment goals, behavioral support plan, and medical needs. Use trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches when responding to emotional or behavioral concerns. Encourage positive decision-making, healthy coping skills, appropriate communication, personal responsibility, and independent-living skills. Implement approved behavior-management and de-escalation techniques while maintaining each youth's dignity and safety. Complete required safety checks, room checks, body searches, and supervision documentation in accordance with facility policy. Transport youth to school, medical appointments, family visits, recreational activities, and other approved destinations when assigned. Participate in recreational, educational, life-skills, and therapeutic activities with youth. Maintain a clean, safe, structured, and welcoming living environment. Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, injuries, illnesses, behavioral crises, and suspected abuse or neglect. Immediately report serious incidents, safety concerns, medical concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, and policy violations through the appropriate chain of command. Complete daily shift notes, progress notes, incident reports, medication records, and other required documentation accurately and on time. Communicate professionally with youth, coworkers, supervisors, case managers, medical professionals, families, and other members of the treatment team. Attend required staff meetings, supervision sessions, and training programs. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the safety and daily operations of the facility. Qualifications and Experience Must be at least 21 years of age. High school diploma or GED is required. Current Certified Medication Technician, Medication Aide, or other approved medication-administration credential is required, as applicable. Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required. Previous experience working in residential treatment, behavioral health, foster care, child welfare, juvenile services, group homes, or other direct-care environments is strongly preferred. Experience administering medications and maintaining accurate medication documentation is preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, adolescent development, mental and behavioral health, and crisis de-escalation is highly desirable. Must successfully complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, and pre-employment requirements. Must complete all required orientation and ongoing training, including SAMA or another approved emergency behavior-intervention program. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record if responsible for transporting youth. Must be able to maintain professional boundaries and protect confidential information. Must demonstrate patience, sound judgment, dependability, emotional stability, and effective communication skills. Must be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented residential environment. Must be available to work assigned days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and emergency shifts as needed. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist with emergency interventions or physical activities as required by the position.
