Job Description

Company Overview Mental Wellness Center (MWC) is a leading organization dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of individuals in our community. Our long-standing values of hope, inclusivity, collaboration, and connection to care drive our mission to advance mental wellness in Santa Barbara by providing youth programming, early intervention, safe and affordable housing, education, and resources for mental health challenges. Job Overview (Up to 12 months) The Peer Support Intern participates in structured peer workforce training to build job‑readiness skills for behavioral health careers. Interns receive on‑the‑job training, shadow staff, learn peer certification content, and support individuals experiencing mental health challenges. This temporary role also assists with referrals, community collaboration, and internal projects. Key Responsibilities Participate in peer certification training and program orientation. Shadow staff and practice peer support skills in supervised settings. Provide direct support such as resource navigation, group support, classes, and outreach. Assist with community networking to strengthen referral pathways. Document services using Electronic Health Records (EHR). Support Employee Resource Groups and attend team meetings. Qualifications Lived experience as a mental health consumer or family caregiver. At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Valid CA driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation (if required). Strong interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively; good judgment under pressure. Commitment to recovery‑oriented, person‑centered care and cultural sensitivity. Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 or willingness to learn. Ability to pass TB assessment, background check, and provide COVID‑19 vaccination or exemption.
Pay:
$23.00 per hour
