The School Health Assistant supports student health needs by providing basic first aid, assisting with triage, maintaining health records, supporting emergency response and daily clinic operations. The position works closely, under the supervision and direction of the School Nurse to ensure safe, timely, and appropriate care while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with school health policies and District of Columbia regulations. Training required for the role will be provided during the onboarding period and ongoing employment. Specifically, areas of responsibilities will include: Student Care & Clinical Support

• Assist the School Nurse in triaging student visits and determining level of care
• Provide basic first aid care for illness or injury (e.g., minor wounds, headaches, nausea, musculoskeletal complaints)
• Initiate emergency response procedures and remain with the student(s) until relieved by licensed personnel or emergency responders
• Administer emergency medications (e.g., epinephrine, rescue inhaler) according to Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and delegated nursing protocols
• Assist with supervised administration of medications or treatments as directed by the School Nurse and consistent with DC delegation standards
• Clean and disinfect health room and related areas following exposure to bodily fluids using universal precautions
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the health office
• Stock, inventory, and order medical and first aid supplies
• Monitor students resting in the health room and communicate status updates to the nurse

Residential & After-Hours Support :

Assist in monitoring the well-being of residential boarders outside of regular classroom hours, ensuring continuity of care for sick students resting in the health center or dorms Emergency Response

• Respond to medical emergencies across campus
• Activate EMS/911 when appropriate and follow school emergency procedures
• Support implementation of individual student Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), Allergy Plans, and Asthma Plans
• Assist with documentation and follow-up after incidents Documentation & Compliance
• Document all health room visits, treatments, and communications in the student health record system
• Maintain confidentiality of student medical information in accordance with FERPA and applicable privacy standards
• Assist with collection, verification, and tracking of immunization and health forms
• Track medication inventory and expiration dates Communication & Collaboration
• Communicate with faculty, staff, parents/guardians, and boarding staff regarding student health needs as directed by the School Nurse
• Assist with coordination of student pickups due to illness
• Support health education initiatives and wellness programs as requested
• Participate in required trainings, drills, and professional development The position may perform other related duties as assigned.
