Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Peer Specialist at
LIFESTREAM BEHAVIORAL CENTER
is responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges. This role involves using personal lived experience to inspire hope and motivation, fostering a supportive environment, and promoting recovery and wellness.
Key Responsibilities:
Offer peer support to clients by sharing personal recovery experiences and encouraging self-advocacy and empowerment. Collaborate with clinical staff to develop and implement individualized recovery plans for clients. Facilitate group sessions and workshops aimed at promoting mental health education and wellness strategies. Assist clients in navigating community resources and accessing necessary services for their recovery journey. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge. Advocate for client needs and rights within the organization and the broader community. Provide crisis intervention support as needed, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for clients.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college coursework in psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges and recovery is required. Experience working with diverse populations and communities is advantageous.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients and colleagues. Ability to provide empathetic support and maintain professional boundaries. Knowledge of mental health and substance use recovery principles. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently. Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software systems. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
