Doctors, nurses, and other medical and administrative staff members rely on the medical receptionist to create a friendly, welcoming and well-organized front office for patients and to facilitate their flow through the facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Unlocks and opens front door admitting patients into waiting room on or before operating hours. Engages and greets clients who are checking in with a very friendly manner and responds to their questions. Informs patients of balances and provides accommodations in paying their bill. Accepts payments for services and enters information in the EMR. Answers incoming telephone calls from client's professional and engaging demeanor. Checks voicemails throughout the day. Sends, retrieves, and routes incoming faxes. Performs confirmation calls to patients. Assists with setting patients up for TMS treatment. Performs urine drug screens, creates requisition, sends specimen and order to lab for results. Prepares letters, forms, and other documents for clients. Keeps the reception area neat and clean in appearance. Completed medication prior authorizations and refill requests. Ensure guests are not waiting for designated period of time. Maintains the schedule on a daily basis by filling gaps, calling to confirm patients who haven't verbally confirmed, and marking and charging "no-show' appointments in the EMR. Compile medical records for requesting entities and send out once approved. Checks out patients while scheduling their next appointment and any referrals in the EMR. Be proactive with all customers by actively listening, showing a caring attitude and offering alternatives when necessary. Exhibits working knowledge in the use of all registration, scheduling systems, and EMR. Provides patient support as necessary, including assisting with patient translation, patient finances, and registration forms when required. Maintains confidentiality of all protected patient health information. Handles communication of emergency information. Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and respect for clients in all interactions. Maintain provider's schedules and daily office schedule. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent plus 1+ year related experience. Strong computer skills including MS Office, Adobe, Access & Internet. Detail oriented. Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, demanding office environment with ability to work any required days/hours. Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment, and be capable of communicating with diverse populations. Maturity and sensitivity to the special needs of SBH clients while possessing the knowledge of behavioral health and mental health conditions. Integrity in all actions and communications. Ability to communicate client needs and information to behavioral healthcare staff. Must be able to develop positive working relationships amongst all coworkers. Must be flexible, reliable, dependable, and have the ability to work autonomously, as well as in a supportive/team-based environment. Ability to prioritize daily work activities to maximize efficient workflow and production. Must have dependable transportation. Professional appearance and attitude.
Working Conditions:
This position requires a person to work in special working conditions as far as working with challenging clients who present with mental health illnesses. Assisting someone with mental health problems brings with it unique challenges. Mental health problems vary greatly in severity and causes. Mild problems are common and the person can be helped through understanding and support. More severe mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia, are less common and pose more challenges.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to focus on tasks, sit and/or stand for long periods of time and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Must have the ability to work with electronics throughout shift.
