Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant specializing in Behavioral Health to join our healthcare team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive support to behavioral health providers, ensuring seamless patient interactions, and facilitating effective communication across diverse populations. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical and administrative skills, demonstrate cultural competency, and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and professional ethics. This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care within a dynamic mental health environment. Duties Assist behavioral health clinicians with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and documenting clinical information accurately. Facilitate communication between patients and providers by providing interpretation services in multiple languages, including American Sign Language, via in-person, over-the-phone, or video remote interpretation methods. Translate medical terminology and documentation to support clear understanding across language barriers while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Maintain accurate medical records, review documentation for completeness, and ensure adherence to clinical ethical guidelines. Support social work activities by coordinating appointments, managing referrals, and assisting with child protective services documentation when necessary. Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries professionally and compassionately, ensuring a positive experience for diverse populations. Uphold hospital experience standards by adhering to clinical cultural competency standards and cross-cultural communication best practices. Achieve HIPAA compliance through diligent handling of protected health information (PHI) and maintaining strict confidentiality protocols. Skills Multilingual proficiency in English and at least one additional language; experience with translation, interpretation, and medical translation services highly preferred. Expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and video remote interpretation platforms. Strong understanding of medical terminology, translating complex concepts into accessible language for patients from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of clinical ethical guidelines, confidentiality policies, and HIPAA regulations related to healthcare documentation. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage cross-cultural populations and foster cultural competency within healthcare settings. Experience working within hospital or mental health environments with familiarity in social work procedures. Ability to review medical records meticulously, ensuring accuracy in documentation and compliance with clinical standards. Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on achieving positive patient outcomes through compassionate care.
