Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Advocate to join our team in providing vital support and services to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, or other related violence. In this role, you will serve as a frontline supporter, guiding clients through crisis situations, offering emotional and practical assistance, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment within the shelter. Your efforts will directly contribute to empowering vulnerable populations, fostering future stability. Responsibilities Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to shelter residents, including individuals with mental health conditions or behavioral health needs. Assist clients with intake procedures, case management, and connecting them to community resources such as healthcare, addiction counseling, childcare, and housing programs. Monitor safety and security within the shelter by managing conflict situations, conducting manual handling when necessary, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols like first aid and CPR. Support high-risk populations by implementing behavioral health strategies and behavior management techniques tailored to individual needs. Maintain accurate data entry, filing, and data collection related to client information, incident reports, and service delivery outcomes. Skills Supervising experience in social services or shelter environments that demonstrates leadership in crisis situations. Strong communication skills capable of de-escalating conflicts and engaging effectively with diverse populations from underserved communities. Expertise in crisis intervention techniques, conflict management, behavioral health strategies, and behavioral health support. Knowledge of addiction counseling principles, medication administration protocols, first aid/CPR certification, manual handling procedures, and home & community care practices. Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions or high-risk populations; familiarity with working with families is highly valued. Proficiency in data entry, filing systems, data collection methods, and documentation required for case management records. Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while supporting clients through intake processes and ongoing service coordination. Work Environment/Schedule Monday thru Friday 2:30pm to 10:30pm Rotational On-Call schedule This is a fast paced environment, and a great opportunity for those looking to get into this field!

$19.00 per hour
