AFTERNOON
shifts at our Morrisville Building Abilities Center and in the home. (We are not looking for evening and weekend staff at present.) A Behavioral Support Staff• assists individuals with IDD and/or autism in daily living activities, personal care, skill development, and community involvement to promote independence and well-being. BSS' are required to complete online documentation in an electronic heath record (EHR) each shift.Job Duties include:
Manage and address challenging behaviors. Seek to understand participant's individual method(s) of communication. Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) or other person-centered plans developed by teachers, specialists, or behavioral consultants. Use positive behavior support strategies to encourage appropriate behavior and social interactions among participants and others. Assist with activities, transitions, and routines to minimize disruptions and promote positive behavior. Help develop the participant's social emotional skills, such as self-regulation, conflict resolution, and empathy, through modeling and guided practice. Foster a sense of belonging and self-confidence in participants by providing encouragement and positive reinforcement. Respond to behavioral crises in the home, community, and day program setting by deescalating situations and ensuring the safety of others present. Follow established protocols for managing severe behavioral incidents and seek additional support when necessary. Communicate regularly with supervisor and families. Participate in team meetings and or Individualized Service Plan (ISP) meetings as needed.Requirements:
Experience working with individuals with IDD or autism. Minimum 6 months experience working directly with individuals with behavioral support needs. Excellent communication skills.
