ABOUT THE ROLE
Next Step Coaching and Counseling Services is hiring Behavioral Assistants (BAs) to provide Intensive In-Community (IIC) behavioral health services to youth and families across New Jersey. This is a 1099 independent contractor position — you set your own schedule, work in your own county, and build a caseload that fits your life. We have immediate openings in the following counties: Camden | Gloucester | Burlington | Essex | Passaic | Cape May/Atlantic | Mercer | Cumberland | Monmouth If you are passionate about supporting the mental and behavioral health of youth, want flexibility in how you work, and are looking for a meaningful role in your community — we want to hear from you. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

IS A 1099 CONTRACTOR ROLE
This is not an employee position. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes, scheduling, and transportation. In return, you have full flexibility over your hours and caseload. Please only apply if you are comfortable working as a 1099 independent contractor. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Implement individualized behavioral health plans under the supervision of a licensed clinician
  • Provide direct, one-on-one support to youth and families in their homes, schools, and communities
  • Teach coping skills, emotional regulation, self-advocacy, and life skills to youth
  • Deliver psychoeducation to clients and family members
  • Collaborate with your assigned licensed clinician and team leader to ensure coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of sessions and progress notes
  • Attend required team meetings and trainings per your contractor agreement ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field (required)
  • Degree must be fully conferred at the time of application
Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year of direct, post-degree experience working with youth in behavioral health, community-based services, residential care, or social services (required)
  • 2+ years of experience preferred, with at least some experience within the past 2 years
  • Prior IIC, BA, or NJ CSOC experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred — especially for Essex, Passaic, Cumberland, and Mercer county positions Compliance Requirements (must be completed before start):
  • Valid NJ driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
  • Current auto insurance
  • NJ State Police and FBI fingerprint background clearance
  • NJ DCPP Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Physical examination within the past 12 months
  • Current TB test results
Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own caseload
  • Cultural competency and ability to build trust with diverse youth and families
  • Comfort supporting youth in community-based settings ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
COMPENSATION
  • Competitive per-session rates, commensurate with experience and county of service
  • Rates discussed and confirmed before onboarding — no surprises
  • No cap on caseload size — the more families you serve, the more you earn
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) providers may build caseloads faster due to high demand
  • Payment processed on a regular schedule per your contractor agreement ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
