Las Vegas, NV Nevada Medicaid Chapter 400 Compliant Job Description Position Summary The Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) provides rehabilitative mental health and behavioral support services to children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing behavioral health conditions. Services are delivered in accordance with Nevada Medicaid Services Manual Chapter 400, agency policy, and all applicable federal and state regulations. The QMHA works under the clinical direction and supervision of a qualified licensed mental health professional and assists clients in improving emotional, behavioral, social, communication, coping, and independent living skills through structured rehabilitative interventions and support services. Regulatory Authority This position is developed in accordance with the Nevada Medicaid Services Manual Chapter 400 governing behavioral health rehabilitative services and mental health support services. The QMHA may provide rehabilitative interventions within the scope permitted by Nevada Medicaid regulations and agency policy under the supervision of a qualified licensed clinician. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the following qualifications: Minimum age of 18 years old High school diploma or GED required Associate or bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, behavioral science, human services, education, or related field preferred Experience working with individuals with behavioral health or mental health conditions preferred Ability to pass state and federal background checks Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred Valid Nevada driver's license and reliable transportation may be required, depending on job duties Ability to meet Nevada Medicaid credentialing and agency employment requirements Supervision Requirements The QMHA must: Work under the supervision of a qualified licensed mental health professional Receive ongoing clinical supervision consistent with Nevada Medicaid Chapter 400 requirements Function within the scope of assigned duties, training, and competency Consult supervising clinicians regarding crises, safety concerns, treatment interventions, and clinical recommendations Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct Client Services Provide rehabilitative mental health interventions in clinic, home, school, and community settings Assist clients in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, communication skills, social functioning, and independent living skills Reinforce treatment goals identified in the client's treatment plan Provide psychoeducation and behavioral support services Support community integration and recovery-oriented interventions Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation efforts under supervision Encourage client participation in treatment and recovery activities Documentation Responsibilities Complete progress notes and service documentation within required timeframes Ensure documentation reflects interventions provided, client response, and progress toward treatment goals Maintain records in accordance with Nevada Medicaid Chapter 400 and agency standards Report significant incidents and clinical concerns to supervising staff promptly Collaboration and Coordination Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations Coordinate services with families, schools, medical providers, case managers, and community agencies as authorized Communicate regularly with supervising clinicians regarding client progress and treatment concerns Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and applicable laws Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct Attend required trainings, supervision sessions, and staff meetings Follow agency safety procedures, documentation policies, and reporting requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of behavioral health recovery principles Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices preferred Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to build rapport with clients and families Ability to maintain timely and accurate documentation Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team Ability to work effectively with diverse populations Knowledge of community resources and support systems Physical Requirements Ability to travel within the community as required Ability to sit, stand, and engage in community-based activities for extended periods Ability to use electronic health record systems and office equipment Ability to safely respond to behavioral health crises when necessary Compliance Statement Employees are expected to comply with: Nevada Medicaid Services Manual Chapter 400 HIPAA and confidentiality regulations Nevada licensing and behavioral health regulations Agency policies and procedures Federal and state behavioral health laws and standards Employees must maintain all required certifications, training, background clearances, and credentialing requirements as conditions of employment.
