Duties Description A Security Hospital Treatment Assistant will perform a variety of tasks related to care, engagement, treatment, education, recovery, safety, and security of individuals with mental illness in forensic hospitals and units operated my OMH, including:
  • Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans
  • Interact with patients and observe and progress and responses to treatment
  • Assist and instruct patients in attending to person care tasks
  • Escort patients to activities and appointments on and facility grounds
  • Complete necessary documentation and maintain patient records The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Security Hospital Treatment Assistant if they have:
  • A High School or High School Equivalency Diploma and two years of full-time direct patient care experience working in a health care, behavioral health, corrections, or juvenile justice setting/program; or
  • An associate's degree and one year of full-time direct patient care experience working in a health care, behavioral health, corrections or juvenile justice setting; or
  • A bachelor's degree.
ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. License Requirement:
Depending on assignment, you may be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.
