Position Summary:
The Assistant Habilitation Specialist assists with the operation of the classroom.
Essential Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for ensuring that all unit activities enhance and support each person's social responsibility, independence, dignity, and continued growth. 2. Implement goals designed to maximize each participant's level of independence, as determined by the IDT. 3. In addition to providing training in activities of daily living, the Assistant Habilitation Specialist may be required to perform these activities for individuals requiring total support. Specifically, staff may need to perform all aspects of the task (shaving, toileting, hand washing, tooth brushing, etc.). 4. Monitor participants' progress by collecting and documenting performance data. 5. Serve as a positive role model for participants in a variety of program and community settings. 6. Provide behavioral interventions when necessary, following the least restrictive OPWDD approved techniques, required by the situation. 7. Must successfully complete and perform all techniques required in AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid. 8. Implement the established activity schedule for each consumer. 9. Must have an understanding of all paperwork required and be able to complete all paperwork in the absence of the Habilitation Specialist. This may only occur with direct support from the Supervising Habilitation Specialist. 10. Required to display proficiency while entering person served data documentation in the electronic data system. 11. Ensure that the unit is clean, safe, stimulating, and appropriately decorated at all times. 12. Supervise participant's lunch periods. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, feeding participants, assisting in the unwrapping of food items, opening containers, and providing verbal and physical support. 13. Participate in various appointments (medical, psychiatric, etc.) for assigned participants as required. 14. Must be able to physically interact with the program individuals, negotiate the environment independently including assisting in all SCIP interventions, emergency CPR, AMAP, and/or first aid techniques and fire drills. 15. Maintain Confidentiality at all times 16. Caseload and location are subject to change. 17. Other duties as requested.
