and The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of students in the intervention classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Essential Functions:
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising staff for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IRP or IEP goals. Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs of students. Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing english lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Attends job specific trainings and meetings (e.g. literacy instruction, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress. Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior. Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements. Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g. distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective operations. Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IRP, IEP and/or 504 plans; and ensuring student success in school. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel. Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students. Contributes to a positive culture in the classroom and school, with other staff and students.
