12.5-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations Job Summary Our client is seeking a Special Attendant to provide direct patient care and support in a psychiatric hospital environment. The role works under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse and focuses on patient safety, daily living activities, behavioral support, therapeutic programs, and maintaining accurate patient records. Key Responsibilities Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, feeding, mobility, and personal care. Take and record vital signs, heights, and weights as required. Monitor patients and report changes in physical or emotional condition to the RN. Provide one-to-one observation for patients as assigned. Escort patients to therapy, dining, treatment, and other hospital areas. Escort or drive patients to approved off-grounds appointments and activities. Use de-escalation, redirection, and approved behavioral intervention techniques. Respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies and adverse behaviors. Support active treatment programs and follow individual treatment plans. Document patient information accurately in medical records and electronic systems. Follow safety procedures, standard precautions, and hospital policies. Apply restraint/seclusion procedures safely and according to policy when required. Encourage patients to participate in social activities and therapeutic programming. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and treat patients with dignity and respect. Perform light housekeeping and unit duties as assigned. Use basic medical equipment such as thermometers, stethoscopes, and blood pressure equipment. Attend required training, in-services, committees, and work groups as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Basic computer skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm and effective during stressful or emergency situations. Ability to manage challenging or adverse patient behavior. Ability to perform physical duties including prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting patients. Must be certified or willing to obtain Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification . Must obtain and maintain required CPR and Bridge Building certifications . Preferred Qualifications Psychiatric or behavioral health experience. Knowledge of psychiatric nursing care practices. Medication administration experience. Experience with behavior modification, de-escalation, self-defense, or restraint techniques. Experience documenting patient records and charts. Knowledge of medical/hospital terminology. MS Office and data-entry experience. Experience assisting patients with activities of daily living. Schedule & Employment Requirements Day shift: 6:30 AM-7:30 PM , with a 30-minute lunch. Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays , typically 3 out of 6 weekends. May be required to float to other units within the scope of practice. Full-week orientation is required Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM , beginning September 14 or October 26 . No absences are permitted during orientation. Time-off requests must be submitted at least four weeks in advance for approval. Must provide required vaccination/health documentation, including Flu vaccination or approved declination, Hepatitis B documentation/declination, and required TB/PPD documentation . Must be available for an in-person interview . Must successfully complete all required onboarding and employment requirements.
