Job Description

Job Overview The Lead Mental Health Technician (L-MHT) provides direct supervision, mentorship, and support to Mental Health Technicians while ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and trauma-informed milieu for adolescents residing in a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF II). The Lead MHT assists with shift coordination, crisis intervention, behavioral support implementation, and ensures the residential environment remains clean, organized, and therapeutic in compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. This role serves as the primary shift leader, supporting staff during crisis situations, maintaining operational continuity, and assisting leadership with staff accountability and program quality. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Milieu Leadership and Supervision Serve as the shift lead for Mental Health Technicians during assigned shifts. Provide guidance, modeling, and coaching to staff on trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and de-escalation techniques. Ensure adherence to resident treatment plans, behavioral interventions, and safety plans. Support staff during crisis interventions, including implementation of approved safety procedures. Monitor resident behavior and ensure consistent therapeutic responses across staff. Communicate significant events, safety concerns, or clinical observations to nursing and clinical staff. Requirements On-Call Expectations Lead Mental Health Technicians are required to: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (typically one week at a time). Respond to staffing emergencies or operational concerns during on-call periods. Assist with shift coverage when staffing shortages occur. Provide consultation or guidance to staff during crises when contacted. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required Associate or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human services, or related field preferred Experience Minimum 1-2 years experience working with adolescents in behavioral health, residential treatment, or psychiatric settings Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred Required Skills Crisis intervention and de-escalation Trauma-informed care Strong leadership and conflict resolution Effective communication and documentation Ability to maintain structure and therapeutic boundaries Ability to work in a high-acuity behavioral health environment Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and supervise residents for extended periods Ability to safely respond to crisis situations Ability to assist with approved physical safety interventions if necessary
