DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to serve as a behavioral health resource, responding to individuals experiencing a low acuity mental health emergency/crisis by providing resources and support to those in need. This position serves as a co-responder alongside Lexington Fire Department (LFD) personnel, providing immediate behavioral health support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This position will conduct on-scene assessments, identify mental health needs, evaluate safety risks, and assist in determining appropriate next steps for care or support.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in social work or another field related to the job Two (2) years of related experience Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responds to emergency calls and provides immediate crisis intervention, suicide prevention and mental health support Conducts comprehensive assessments of individuals in crisis, assessing mental health needs, risk factors, and safety concerns Determines the need for further intervention and coordinates with medical and behavioral health services as necessary Provides ongoing support during and after crises to ensure the individual's safety and wellbeing Develops and maintains community partnerships for coordination of care for individuals in crisis Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions, assessments, interventions, and referrals made Conducts regular program evaluations to evaluate effectiveness and impact of program Performs related work as assigned
SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
All certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment. Valid Driver's License Mental Health First Aid for Public Safety, through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, must be completed within the first six (6) months of employment Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training must be completed within the first six (6) months of employment
