Job Description

A Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) implements treatment plans, monitors patient behavior, provides direct support and emotional guidance, and ensures a safe environment for individuals with behavioral health issues. Key duties include observing and documenting patient progress, facilitating therapeutic activities, assisting with daily living activities, and responding to crises under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care:
Provide direct care and support, assisting patients with daily living activities (e.g., hygiene, meals) and personal care. Monitor patients' behavior and condition, documenting any changes or notable variations for supervisors. Offer emotional and psychological support, creating a safe and therapeutic environment.
Treatment Implementation:
Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by licensed mental health professionals. Facilitate group therapy and other therapeutic activities, such as psychoeducation, life skills, and coping strategies. Help patients understand and develop coping mechanisms to manage their mental health challenges.
Crisis Intervention:
Respond to crisis situations and employ de-escalation techniques to ensure safety.
Documentation and Communication:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and daily session notes. Communicate observations and patient progress effectively with the clinical team.
Team Collaboration:
Participate in team meetings, contributing input on patient care and the development of treatment plans. Coordinate with other healthcare providers, such as nurses, doctors, and therapists, to deliver comprehensive care.
Qualifications and Skills Education:
High school diploma or GED is often a minimum requirement, with some positions preferring an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field.
Certifications:
CPR/First Aid certification and potentially a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) certification may be required.
Skills:
Excellent communication, active listening, and empathy. Strong observational, organizational, and attention to detail skills. Ability to remain calm in stressful and emotionally demanding situations. Willingness to work with patients of diverse backgrounds with compassion and respect. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to unpredictable environments.
Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time Pay:
$21.00 - $30.00 per hour
