Role:
NIGHT SHIFT
The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and managing crisis situations to ensure patient safety and well-being. The technician is responsible for maintaining accurate clinical documentation and assisting in the development and execution of discharge plans to facilitate smooth transitions for patients. Through compassionate patient care and effective crisis intervention, the Behavioral Health Technician helps promote recovery and stability for individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED). Ultimately, this role contributes to a multidisciplinary team effort aimed at delivering high-quality behavioral health services within a supportive and therapeutic environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in behavioral health or related field preferred. Experience in mental health or behavioral health settings, including direct patient care. Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and ability to maintain accurate records. Training or certification in crisis intervention and management techniques. Ability to perform clinical assessments and support discharge planning processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) or equivalent. Experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations with serious emotional disturbances (SED). Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data entry. Additional training in trauma-informed care or de-escalation strategies. Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
Responsibilities:
Conduct clinical assessments and monitor patient behavior to identify changes in mental health status. Provide direct patient care and support, including assistance with daily living activities and therapeutic interventions. Implement crisis management and intervention techniques to de-escalate emergency situations safely and effectively. Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. Collaborate with clinical staff to develop, update, and execute individualized discharge plans for patients. Participate in team meetings and communicate patient progress and concerns to ensure coordinated care. Support patients with serious emotional disturbances (SED) by fostering a safe and therapeutic environment.
Skills:
The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring compliance and continuity of care, as the technician regularly updates patient charts and treatment notes. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are applied daily to safely de-escalate situations and provide immediate support to patients experiencing acute distress. Clinical assessments enable the technician to observe and report behavioral changes, contributing valuable information to the treatment team. Knowledge of mental health principles and patient care allows the technician to deliver compassionate support tailored to individual needs, especially for those with serious emotional disturbances (SED). Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and trauma-informed care enhance the technician's ability to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team and provide sensitive, patient-centered care.
