Position Summary The Psychiatric Technician I (Psych Tech I) delivers vital supportive care to patients with mental or behavioral health needs in the Emergency Center. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Psych Tech I collaborates with charge and staff nurses to maintain patient care standards, ensure unit safety, and facilitate therapeutic support.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist clinical staff with direct care activities for psychiatric and behavioral health patients in an Emergency Center setting. Help maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic clinical environment. Utilize medical and behavioral health terminology to document patient status and care activities accurately via electronic health records. Perform technical patient care procedures, including phlebotomy and EKG testing as required by the unit. Maintain clear, empathetic communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Technical skills or formal training appropriate to behavioral health preferred.
Experience:
One (1) year of related clinical experience preferred.
Required Certifications & Licenses:
BLS:
Basic Life Support (AHA-approved hospital-based program) required at hire.
SAMA:
Accredited Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Clinical Skills:
EKG and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required within 6 months of hire (as applicable to unit).
Preferred:
Psychiatric Technician I certification.
Specialized Skills & Attributes:
Above-average verbal communication skills (heavy public contact). Analytical ability, computer proficiency, and fluency in medical terminology.
