Job Description

America's first hospice, The Connecticut Hospice, Inc., is a 503 (c) not for profit organization, accredited and certified by The Joint Commission (TJC) as the first palliative hospital in the US., and has an immediate opening available for a qualified, full-time Board Certified Music Therapist to provide music therapy to patients in both the inpatient and homecare setting.
Primary Purpose of Job:
  • Provide individualized, goal directed music therapy services for Connecticut Hospice patients/families
  • Create an environment which encourages creative expression and enhances patient and family experience
  • Assist the Arts Director to provide coverage to patient both in the inpatient and homecare setting; provide clinical feedback and support to students, interns and volunteers; assist with individual and group session planning Job Reports to:

Arts volunteers and interns when directed and applicable
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Current MT-BC credential from the Certification Board for Music Therapists
  • Exceptional musicianship, demonstrating ability to sing a variety of musical genres with guitar accompaniment
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a Board-Certified Music Therapist
  • Experience in the hospice and palliative care setting is preferred
Essential Physical Requirements:
Must be able to: observe verbal and non-verbal communications by patients and families; sit and stand for long periods; lift up to 25 pounds
Job Duties:
  • Provide music therapy services to patients and/or families at HIP and homecare
  • Create projects/interventions appropriate to individual clients
  • Produce timely documentation of music therapy interventions
  • Maintain supplies and materials
  • Attend staff meetings, IDT meetings, educational programs
  • Participate in Arts workshops, rekindling programs, memorial services, special events
  • Assist in orienting new Arts staff, volunteers and interns
