Job Overview:
Collaborates with the Child Life in the execution of all Music Therapy Program goals and objectives. Shares in providing a healing environment for pediatric patients and families on the pediatric unit, pediatric intensive care unit, Burn Step down Unit and Burn Intensive Care unit by providing developmentally appropriate music therapy interventions.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelors Degree in music or field related to music therapy Board certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) Successful completion of all orientation programs
Preferred:
Masters degree in music therapy or related field Scheduling Requirements Per Diem
Day Shift Essential Functions:
Offers and provides individual and group music therapy sessions to pediatric patients and families throughout the children's hospital based on daily psychosocial assessment and referrals from the child life and interdisciplinary staff. Utilizes music therapy as a diagnostic and treatment tool to help children and families with adjustment to hospitalization, illness, treatment, etc. Interprets the child's perception of his/her diagnosis and treatment as revealed through music and other means of communication both verbal and non-verbal. Provides opportunities for and facilitates a variety of music therapy modalities to promote self healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery. Prioritizes patient needs effectively and efficiently. Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to assess needs and provides consultation to the child life staff and overall healthcare team regarding the status and individual needs of children to promote adaptation to hospitalization. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development. Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Applies the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Provides the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
