Located in University City, we offer both day and residential programs designed to meet the unique needs of our students through comprehensive education and therapy programs. Job Summary Provide Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) at HMS School for Children with Cerebral palsy by designing a movement experience that focuses on nonverbal dynamics and communication within a safe, supportive, nurturing, creative, and fun environment. Encourage students to express themselves through movement, facial expressions, and voice while facilitating activities that build self-awareness, body awareness, increase attention span, and socialization. Develop themes, group and individual goals to help each student feel empowered by engaging them physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Required Skills/Abilities:
An enthusiastic, creative, caring, patient, responsible, respectful and organized individual with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy. A desire to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting. Facilitate and encourage student achievements and help them reach their maximum potential. Ability to assess student needs and document progress. Ability to adapt movement activities for varying mobility, communication and sensory needs. Knowledge of inclusive and accessible practices. Experience supporting emotional regulation, communication, and social-emotional development. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Flexibility and responsiveness within fast-paced educational setting. Reliability, professionalism, and strong follow-through. Able to balance independent work with active team collaboration.
Education and Experience:
Master's in Arts with a specialization in dance/movement therapy. R-DMT (registered dance/movement therapist) or BC-DMT (board certified dance/movement therapist) is accepted.
Preferred:
prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities in therapeutic, educational, or community-based settings.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to safely position students in their wheelchairs or other adapted equipment. Ability to transfer, lift, and/or stand students. Must be able to lift, up to 30 pounds at times. Reports to :

Recreation Aide Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Conduct movement observations and Dance/Movement Therapy assessments that meet the needs and abilities of the student population. Theme and session planning, writing group goals, developing and implementing individualized dance therapy tools and techniques. Provide daily group and individual Dance/Movement Therapy according to students' individual schedules. Document daily session notes, communication with parents/guardians, attend department and student specific meetings, attend and contribute to staff in-services. Co-facilitate and collaborate with Recreation and Expressive Arts department members to lead graduate-specific group programming and projects. Design, implement, and assist with all-school activities. Provide staffing support for student supervision outside of therapeutic session times. Opportunity to support and supervise graduate students from local universities. Leading and supporting of after-school DMT with HMS residential program. Co-treat with other therapists/staff.
