Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description
Qualifications:
Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) through the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS)- AND•Complete 6 hours of relevant ongoing training on Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy or brain injury rehabilitation•AND•at least one of the following: Master's degree in allied health field from accredited institution where the degree is prerequisite for licensure or certification Bachelor's degree in allied rehabilitation field from an accredited institution where the degree is sufficient for licensure, certification or registration.

Require Knowledge and experience: Assessment and Understanding 1.Initial Evaluation:
Conduct assessments to understand the individual's cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, and specific challenges related to their IDD. 2.Individualized Treatment Plans:
Based on the assessment, therapists create personalized treatment plans that consider the individual's strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Therapeutic Techniques 1. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Therapists will use modified CBT techniques, focusing on understanding and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. This may involve simplifying concepts and using concrete examples. 2.Skill Development:
Coginitive Therapist will assist individuals developing coping skills, problem-solving abilities, and social skills to enhance daily functioning and emotional regulation. Communication and Engagement 1.Adapted Communication:
Therapists may use visual aids, role-playing, and other interactive techniques to facilitate understanding and engagement. 2.Building Trust:
Establishing a strong therapeutic relationship is crucial. Therapists often create a safe and supportive environment to encourage open communication. Family Involvement 1.Education and Support:
Be able to involve family members in the therapeutic process, providing education on how to support their loved ones and reinforcing skills learned in therapy. 2.Collaboration:
Be able to work with with caregivers and other professionals (e.g., educators, social workers) ensures a comprehensive approach to the individual's care. Monitoring and Adjustment 1.Progress Tracking:
Therapists regularly assess the individual's progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure they remain effective and relevant. 2.Feedback Mechanisms:
Be able to solicit feedback from clients and families to refine approaches and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Focus on Quality of Life 1.Goal Setting:
Therapists help individuals set achievable goals that promote independence, self-advocacy, and improved quality of life. 2.Empowerment:
