Variable Summary:
Performs inpatient/outpatient EEG procedures with direct supervision of Level III or Level IV END tech. Performs one of three inpatient/outpatient Evoked Potential procedures, with direct supervision of a Level IV END tech. Ability to learn to perform scanning and notations of Ambulatory EEG monitoring and one of six intraoperative monitoring ( IOM ) procedures with direct supervision of a level IV END tech.
Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, laboratory staff, physicians and other members of the hospital staff. + Participates in conferences and technical meetings + Performs other duties as assigned. + Demonstrates a commitment to cooperation and to satisfying the needs of hospital guests and patients. + Provides for patient's physical and mental comfort, privacy, safety, and responds appropriately to changes in their condition. + Provides for patient education of procedures via written and/or verbal explanation in language appropriate to listener. + Protects patient confidentiality per organization and departmental policy. + Coordinates patient care activities with other sections of the department and other patient care areas. Collaborates effectively with all department staff. + Communicates effectively, using proper grammar, common rules of courtesy and discretion, introducing self by name and appropriately addressing the patient by name. Anticipates and alleviates situations that could result in a patient/customer complaint. + Notifies the appropriate personnel regarding transport needs of inpatient upon completion of their procedure. + Telephone technique is polite and articulate. Information is relayed accurately. + Makes timely appropriate decisions and acts through empowerment to handle situations to resolution and/or refers to appropriate person when necessary. Channels suggestions, criticism, and questions to appropriate person in a constructive manner. + Demonstrates a willingness to learn new methods of performance of job duties as available. + Maintains a calm, knowledgeable demeanor; keeps composure under stressful situations. + Remains flexible and willingly accepts changes in assignments, scheduled hours, or call rotation. + Applies the techniques of good body mechanics. Attends annual in-service. + Keeps abreast of new technology, procedures, techniques, methods, procedures, equipment and supplies, and demonstrates an interest in learning to expand knowledge and enhance job performance. + Attends at least 75% of staff meetings and actively participates in discussion, idea generation and solutions to improve departmental activities. Reads staff meeting minutes when absent. + Attends/participates in department in-service programs and/or external programs, and obtains necessary continuing education to obtain/maintain certification and licensure in good standing. + Rotates assignment within the department if necessary. + Practices AIDET with all patient encounters. + Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 System. Ensures that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards. + Writes a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from patient, patient's record, and family members to include seizure types, date of last seizure, other neurological symptomatology and medications. Explains test procedure to patient and family members present. + EEG -Performs digital EEG record according to the standards of the laboratory (routine, sleep, bedside, and electrocerebral silence recordings.) with indirect supervision. + EEG -Learns to perform special procedure digital EEG , such as intensive care nursery, and electrocerebral inactivity. + EEG -Learns to perform visual evoked potentials according to the standards of the laboratory. + EEG - Learns to perform long-term video EEG monitoring on hospital inpatients, including in the ICU setting. + EEG - Learns to perform 24-72 hour ambulatory digital EEG recordings. + IOM -Learns to perform intraoperative digital EEGs. + IOM -Learns to perform intraoperative evoked potentials. + IOM -Learns to perform intraoperative digital spontaneous EMG recording in the OR during standard surgical procedures. + IOM -Learns to perform intraoperative digital triggered EMG recording, spinal screw stimulation, threshold testing, and train-of-four in the OR during standard surgical procedures. + Knows and follows"Stat" procedure. Will maintain CPR certification. + Knows and follows"Fire Safety" and"Hazardous Materials" safety procedures and attends annual in-service. + Demonstrates knowledge of the Disaster Plan + Participates in call schedule as required or assigned. + Implements alternative methods or adjusts control to obtain optimal recording. This may include appropriate control setting changes on the machine, use of extra electrodes, extra montages, and use of activation procedures. + Recognizes artifact (patient and environmental). Documents, eliminates or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact. + Knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient emergency situations and insures patient safety (electrical) at all times. + Knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment including electrodes. + Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order. Knowledge of appropriate calibrations and how to make adjustments. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and repair or report to senior tech/department head promptly. + Knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and computer operation, general knowledge of digital EEG instrumentation, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG . + Ensures cleanliness/orderliness/readiness of exam rooms, adequate supplies, availability of emergency supplies, oxygen, and suction equipment. + Operates and maintains all equipment in a clean and responsible manner within the inherent limitations of each unit. Reports unsafe/abnormal conditions, equipment malfunctions, etc to department head and submits work-order immediately. + Follows Northern Light Health Infection control policy and attends annual in-service. Disposes of contaminated items and sharps in the approved manner and location. Practices sterile technique where required. + Follows all of the department's safety policies/procedures and regulatory safety standards. Reports unsafe practices to the department head. + Completes procedures, while maintain quality of work, within established RVU time frames. + Demonstrates initiative by seeking assignments when the assigned area is not busy.
