MVH Position Summary:
Independently performs neurodiagnostic procedures including both routine & long-term electroencephalograms (EEGs) and all modalities of evoked potential procedures under their scope of practice. Is knowledgeable in correct EEG, long-term monitoring (LTM), continuous (CEEG)/ICU monitoring, and evoked potential (EP) performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows the facility's policy and procedures. Exercises professional judgement in the performance of exams and communicates effectively with the neurologist and other staff members. May have on call responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Functions:
1. Performs EEG procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates EEGs and EP studies for technical quality. 2. Assists Neurologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations. 3. Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the EEG/EP procedure. 4. Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System. 5. Implements activation procedures and safety measures in accordance with EEG/EP policies / procedures. 6. Identifies various types of EEG patterns. 7. Communicates effectively with physicians and co-workers. Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam. 8. Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction. 9. Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure. 10. Maintains equipment in good working condition. Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.

High School completion / GED Additional requirements:  Preferred educational qualifications: Associate degree
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
 CPR Certification required  R.EEG.T board-eligible  R.EP.T board-eligible
Experience:
Experience Required:
No prior job-related work experience Preferred experience: Two years of experience in Electroencephalograms (EEG) and Evoked Potentials, (EP)
Knowledge/Skills:
 Electrode application  Pattern recognition  Correlates patient history and clinical symptoms  Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology  Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
