Job Description

Position Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies under the supervision of the Medical Director and Radiation Safety Officer. Is responsible for patient and staff safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation. Education Bachelors of Science
  • Required Experience 1 Year Nuclear Medicine
  • Preferred License & Certification Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Required Core Job Functions Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patient being served.
Demonstrates principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient populations served. Coordinates patient care needs with team members and other appropriate departments. Interprets requests and performs exams in accordance with approved protocols. Communicates with radiologists and physicians about appropriateness of exams when in question. Maintains aseptic/sterile environment during invasive procedures and otherwise. Accountable for standards of care as related to IV starts, isotope and medication injections. Compliant with use of PYXIS for medication access per hospital policy. Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines. Major arrhythmias and hemodynamic events are identified and communicated to ensure proper action for patient safety. Maintains radiopharmaceutical logs and computer entries for period of time required by the DNR. Reviews and understands standards in the radioactive materials license. QA's equipment on a schedule that complies with the DNR. Uses leaded containers/syringe shields when handling, transporting and transferring radioactive materials.
