Nuclear Medicine Technologist Mt. Pleasant, Michigan Imaging/Radiology/Sleep Varies Casual Any Shift Nuclear Med
  • Mt P 45455 Job Description Summary This position performs a variety of technical procedures that requires the use of independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation includes but not limited to
  • Use of gamma cameras (both planar and SPECT), PET, Radiation detectors/counters, dose calibrators, and the Quality Control of all equipment. Radiation Safety Practices/Handling includes but not limited to
  • Safe administration of Radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic studies, knowledge about patient and occupational exposures, dosimetry, safety techniques that include time, distance, shielding, and
ALARA. NRC
guidelines pertaining to handling, administering, and transportation of radioactive materials. Radiopharmacy includes but not limited to
  • Preparation, measurement, administration, and application of radiopharmaceuticals for Diagnostic and/or Therapeutic purposes. As well as the regulations pertaining to these duties. Responsibilities (20%)
  • Performs clerical functions including scheduling, taking patient's history, and completing required forms and statistics. (20%)
  • Controls and calculates radiopharmaceutical activities, concentrations and dosages of all related records and reports. (15%)
  • Injects and administers all radiopharmaceuticals. (15%)
  • Performs laboratory procedures including many aspects of measurement and manipulation and the preparation of radio-pharmaceutical kits. (15%)
  • Operates all detection counting and measurement activities. (15%)
  • Operates all photoscanning and scintiphotography imaging devices including the positioning and manipulation of the patient.
Monitors patients during imaging procedures.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares tests and reports for diagnosis by a physician including calculations, measurements graphical extrapolations and computer readouts. Available for covering call (after hours) with other technologists. Documents, updates, verifies, and completes all patient demographics and clinical information within both RIS and PACS. CNMT/ARRT
(N)
  • Nuclear Med Techs CNMT or ARRT(N) Required Equivalent Experience
  • Registry eligible (ARRT (N) or CNMT) with credentialing within one (1) year of hire required. BLS
  • Basic Life Support Required Equivalent Experience
  • Within 3 months of hire or transfer Required Education Associates Degree Other Information
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS
Interpersonal skills as needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. In-depth knowledge of radiopharmacy as it pertains to radioactive tracers and their interaction in the human body. Knowledge of radioactive inventory and disposal of waste as directed by both the NRC and the state regulatory agencies. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. I.V. set up skills preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level:
Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs. Equivalent Experience and Other Comments (Education) Other Comments
