Job Description

Mercy is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will perform diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures, operate imaging equipment, prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, and ensure accurate image acquisition and documentation. You will collaborate closely with physicians and clinical staff to deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate patient care. Responsibilities Prepare, verify, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and radiation safety guidelines. Perform a wide range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including but not limited to whole-body bone scans, cardiac perfusion studies, thyroid scans, hepatobiliary studies, and pulmonary perfusion/ventilation exams. Position patients and operate gamma cameras and related nuclear medicine equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Verify patient identity, review clinical history and indications, and confirm exam orders and protocols prior to imaging. Apply ALARA principles and follow all radiation safety and regulatory standards to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary exposure. Perform and document routine quality control tests on nuclear medicine cameras, dose calibrators, and related equipment, reporting any issues promptly. Document all administered doses, procedures, and patient information accurately in the electronic medical record and departmental systems. Communicate effectively with radiologists, referring providers, nurses, and other team members to coordinate care and clarify exam requirements. Educate patients and, when appropriate, family members about nuclear medicine procedures, expectations, post-exam instructions, and safety considerations. Adapt to a flex/PRN schedule, providing coverage for variable shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and potential on-call responsibilities as needed by the department. Support departmental workflow by prioritizing exams, managing multiple tasks, and assisting colleagues during periods of high volume or urgent cases. Participate in ongoing education, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain and enhance clinical skills and support Mercy's standards of care.
