Knowledge of imaging examinations and procedures that requires the use of contrast mediums and/or radiopharmaceuticals. Knowledge of imaging equipment operation and radiation safety. Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques. Knowledge of quality patient care and use of patient restraint devices. Flexibility to work overtime as well as on-call duty as needed. Displays a good understanding of age-specific developmental issues of all age group patients. Open, accurate, and responsive communication, oral and written, on an individual basis or in groups. Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct. Able to work in two different modalities. Educational Requirements High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited radiology program or equivalent. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Licenses and Certifications Current certification and registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or ARDMS. Current license from the state of Texas (except in Ultrasound Department). Registered in one special imaging modality related to Radiology Services. BCLS Certification (may be obtained during training). Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Proficient in primary area of the Radiology Department. Proficient in proper patient positioning and demonstrates the ability to produce technically adequate images for interpretation. Must be able to effectively communicate with the patient, the patient's family and all medical personnel. Physical Requirements Moderate amount of lifting and positioning of patients and equipment as well as, transportation of patients via cart or wheelchair. Walking or standing for 80% of the time, sitting for 20 % of the time. Ability to stand for long periods of time as well as walking and sitting; see small objects, have good eye-hand coordination and hear normal sounds with background noises. Ability to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption. Ability to relate specific ideas generally, several at a time and remember multiple task given at one time or over a period of time. Ability to communicate in written work, using advanced writing skills. Subject to electrical, radiation and biohazards. Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids. Duties and Responsibilities Verifies correct patient by patient's armband and medical record number, reviews the patient's chart to verify the physician's order, makes corrections and additions to order if applicable. Thoroughly explains procedure to the patient and their family and obtains the necessary consent forms. Coordinates inpatient procedures with scheduled outpatients to reduce waiting time for exams and to assign priority to procedures. Ensures proper positioning of patient to obtain good quality images for radiologist's interpretation. Demonstrates the ability to make knowledge-based adjustments of imaging procedures, equipment, and contrast mediums, and safely performs examination. Practices proper radiation safety. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of all related equipment and patient shielding devices. Performs all procedures according to established protocols, annotates patient's information on the images, reviews each examination for technical and diagnostic accuracy, properly administers contrast mediums as needed, presents all relevant information and completed exam to cardiologist, records and tracks procedure. Demonstrates working knowledge of ancillary equipment, in addition to maintaining accurate records. Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary. Job Identification 11680 Job Category
