Collaborates with the Chair of the Anesthesiology Department in developing, interpreting, and applying department policies, budgets, and long-range plans. Analyzes and evaluates activities to assure established quality patient services and plans appropriate utilization of staff time and capabilities. Coordinates these activities with other hospital departments. The Chief Nurse Anesthetist will demonstrate professional and clinical leadership, expertise, and judgment. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program with a Master's Degree in a related field; or graduation from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education programs prior to January 1998 is required. Certified as an APN in the State of NJ is required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a nurse anesthetist is required. Candidate must have sufficient sensory capacity to observe the patient and patient monitors. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings. Candidates must possess the emotional health required for full utilization of their intellectual abilities, the exercise of good judgment, and the ability to effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice. Must show evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams and possess demonstrated ability to exercise of good judgment, and effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice. Demonstrated professionalism, leadership, academic excellence, decision making ability and expertise sufficient to coordinate the administrative and clinical activities of the CRNAs and anesthesia technicians. Candidate must be able to read and understand medical and nursing literature. Ancillary privileges granted by the University Hospital Medical Staff must be successfully obtained upon hire.
