Duties:
Provides trainee health support. Develops policies and procedures and prepares directives governing communicable disease, illness and injuries, preventive medicine, and occupational medicine. Services as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies in matters related to preventive medicine and occupational medicine. Determines recommendations on waivers of medical standards. Develop programs for medical support of contingency operations. Provides occupational medicine support. Determines frequency and scope of occupational medicine exams required by federal regulations and workplace exposures. Conducts and supervises placement and periodic health exams for employees. Establishes procedures to identify occupational hazards, to notify appropriate agencies of occupational diseases or injuries, and to investigate job related injuries or illness. Conducts military unique medical examinations of personnel with special standards of medical care. Examine personnel requiring special medical care standards to determine fitness for special duties, or to recommend continuance, removal, or return to duty status. Will perform deployment related health assessment and annual mental health assessment services that comply with applicable Department of Defense and Air Force policy and guidance, to include required standards of care and clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, the Physician Extender must a have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and become proficient in the use of the following computer systems: MHS Genesis Physical Exam Processing Program (PEPP) Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS) and Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS Provides aerospace medical care to flyers, missile crews, and others with special standards of medical qualifications. Implements policies and procedures and prepares directives governing flight medicine, preventive medicine, and occupational medicine.
Qualifications:
Degree/Education:
NP:
Graduate from an academic program, within the specialty field of nursing study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
PA:
master's degree, Graduate from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
Certification:
National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or must have successfully completed the USAF Aerospace Medicine Primary Course and have practiced in the USAF aerospace medicine career field, either active duty or National Guard or AF Reserve. Providers who have worked in aerospace medicine from other branches of the Department of Defense and who completed similar Basic Aerospace Medicine training programs may be considered for the position, however the FAA designation of Aerospace Medicine Examiner does not qualify as adequate flight medicine training as a Aerospace Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
Experience:
Minimum of 24 months of full-time medical patient care services as a Family/Aerospace Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Providers seeking clinical privileges through a DHA facility must have evidence of current clinical practice and must have actively practiced in their discipline within the past 2 years.
Licensure:
Must maintain an active, valid, current and unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) for advanced practice nursing from any state or territory of the United States or District of Columbia.
