Job Description
Objective of the
Job:
The nurse practitioner provide on-site occupational health services for employees and contractors, including assessment and treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries, medical surveillance support, and emergency response coordination to promote a safe and healthy work environment.Duties and Responsibilities:
1) This role will be assigned a primary service line (Employee Occupational Care or Contractor Care) and may provide cross-coverage only as scheduled/assigned. 2) Support site Safety, Environmental, Quality, and applicable ResponsibleSteel requirements through occupational health programs and clinic operations. 3) Maintain compliance with OSHA recordkeeping and regulatory requirements applicable to occupational health services, and ensure protection of confidential medical information in accordance with HIPAA & company policy. 4) Provide clinical evaluation and treatment for occupational injuries and illnesses within scope, including triage, first aid, and coordination of off-site care/EMS when indicated. 5) Perform occupational health evaluations for employees and contractors as required (e.g., injury evaluation, follow-up visits, post-incident assessments, fitness-for-duty routing per clinic process). 6) Maintain accurate medical documentation to support occupational health case management, including required workers' compensation documentation and coordination with safety/claims stakeholders. 7) Administer and/or oversee OSHA/medical surveillance testing as applicable (e.g., audiometry/hearing conservation, respiratory protection-related testing, fit testing) and ensure proper documentation & follow-up. 8) Interpret and communicate test results within scope and protocol; escalate abnormal findings to the appropriate provider and/or referral pathway. 9) Lead or support site emergency response initiatives related to occupational health (e.g., CPR/AED/First Aid programs, responder readiness, drills, and outreach). 10) Lead or support CPR/AED/First Aid training as assigned and maintain training records and refresher cadence. 11) Implement and maintain infection prevention and control practices for the clinic and patient care activities. 12) Conduct alcohol and drug testing activities as assigned and in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations (e.g., post-incident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty) in coordination with HR/Safety. 13) Prescribe/administer medications within Arkansas APRN scope and clinic protocols, including refills and new prescriptions only when clinically indicated and authorized under the practice model (Full Independent Practice Authority or active Collaborative Practice Agreement/prescriptive authority as applicable). 14) Coordinate referrals to off-site providers/specialists and track outcomes as needed for occupational cases. 15) Provide clinical support for on-site wellness initiatives as assigned (e.g., community blood drives) when within scope and operational priorities.Qualifications:
1)Education:
Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) required; DNP preferred. 2)Certification:
National Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC/AANP) in an appropriate population focus; Occupational/Industrial clinical background strongly preferred. 3)Licensure:
Active, unencumbered Arkansas APRN license in good standing (or eligible to obtain Arkansas APRN licensure/endorsement prior to start). 4)Prescribing:
Active Arkansas Prescriptive Authority (or eligible to obtain). If Arkansas Full Independent Practice Authority is not held, candidate must be willing to practice under a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA) with a collaborating physician until independent authority is granted. 5) Independent Practice (preferred): Holds Arkansas Certificate of Full Independent Practice Authority (Full Practice Authority) or has documented progress toward eligibility (verifiable NP practice hours and willingness to complete the application when eligible). 6)Experience:
Minimum 2-5 years NP experience with preference for occupational medicine/industrial clinics, and/or urgent care, emergency medicine, orthopedics, internal medicine with strong minor injury/RTW exposure. 7)Occupational Competencies:
Demonstrated competency in occupational health workflows: triage, minor injury/illness care, emergency response, OSHA/medical surveillance support (as applicable), drug/alcohol testing coordination, injury documentation, and RTW routing in coordination with provider guidelines. 8)Credentials/Skills:
Current BLS required; ACLS preferred. Proficient with EMR documentation and able to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment. Nurse Practitioner must be able to maintain Arkansas prescriptive authority throughout employment (Full Independent Practice Authority or active Collaborative Practice Agreement).Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This position occasionally requires employee to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Supervisory Responsibility:
This position provides clinical oversight to nursing and clinical support staff for patient-care activities, including clinical direction, delegation within scope, standing orders/protocol adherence, and competency validation as assigned.
