In addition to our private practice wound and hyperbaric clinics, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered surgical and wound care services in the inpatient setting. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely across specialties to provide comprehensive care for complex surgical and wound care patients. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to function as a First Assist in the operating room with a strong focus on inpatient management and post-operative care/follow-up. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in advanced wound care, must have surgical first assist certification , and hospital-based inpatient care, and will be comfortable practicing within a large, dynamic health system in Phoenix. Key Responsibilities Serve as First Assist in the operating room for a variety of surgical procedures, including but not limited to podiatric, vascular, and wound-related surgeries Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with acute and chronic wounds in both inpatient and consult settings Perform and/or assist with wound debridement, dressing selection and application, negative pressure wound therapy, and other advanced wound care interventions Collaborate closely with surgeons, hospitalists, nurses, therapists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized care plans Round on inpatients across Phoenix-based hospital units, manage daily progress notes, adjust treatment plans, and coordinate transitions of care and outpatient follow-up Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging within scope of practice Prescribe medications and therapies, including antibiotics, pain management, and adjunctive wound therapies Educate patients and families on wound care, post-operative care, self-management, and postoperative recovery Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical outcomes, wound healing rates, and readmission reduction Contribute to staff education and training on best practices in wound assessment, documentation, and management Qualifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license and Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Arizona (or ability to obtain prior to start date) National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., FNP, AGACNP, AGNP, or equivalent) Current certification as RNFA or evidence of formal first assist training (or willingness/eligibility to obtain within a defined timeframe) Minimum [2-3] years of NP/PA experience preferred At least [1-2] years in: Surgical first assist, and wound care and inpatient/hospital-based practice Strong clinical skills in wound assessment and management; experience with advanced modalities (NPWT, biologics, grafts, etc.) strongly preferred BLS and ACLS certifications required (or obtained within 1 months of hire) Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and collaborative skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment and manage a complex inpatient caseload Preferred Experience Wound care certification (e.g., WOCN, WCC, CWCN, CWS) Experience in a multidisciplinary wound care center, limb preservation program, or similar service line
