Others enter medicine to solve the deeper puzzle of why people are sick. Helixona was built for the latter. Our clinic exists to care for patients living with complex chronic illness—individuals who often arrive after years of searching for answers. Many have seen numerous specialists and have been told their tests are normal despite ongoing symptoms that profoundly affect their lives. At Helixona, we believe medicine should look deeper. Our clinical philosophy is guided by three principles:
ELIMINATE. NOURISH. REPAIR.
We identify and remove harmful factors such as infections, toxins, and inflammatory triggers. We restore the nutrients, oxygen, and metabolic support the body needs to recover. And we work to repair systems that have become dysregulated—including neurological, immune, and mitochondrial function. This systems-based framework allows us to approach complex conditions such as mold illness, Lyme disease, mast cell activation syndrome, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, and post-viral syndromes with clarity and structure. For clinicians who enjoy investigative medicine and meaningful patient relationships, this work can be deeply rewarding. The Opportunity Helixona is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) who is passionate about integrative medicine and interested in working with patients facing complex chronic illness. Patients establish care with our Medical Director during their initial diagnostic visits. After the treatment plan is established, the Advanced Practice Provider plays an essential role in helping guide patients through their healing process. This includes follow-up visits, monitoring progress, reviewing laboratory findings, adjusting therapies within physician-guided care plans, and collaborating closely with the care team to ensure patients remain supported throughout their treatment. Our goal is to provide patients with frequent clinical touchpoints while maintaining physician oversight for complex medical decision-making. What Makes This Role Different This is not a high-volume, transactional medical environment. Our patients are medically complex and often arrive after years of unresolved illness. Care requires thoughtful observation, careful interpretation of evolving symptoms, and a systems-level understanding of physiology. Healing chronic illness rarely follows a straight line. The right clinician will find this work intellectually engaging and meaningful. Appointments often focus on:
Monitoring how patients respond to therapy Interpreting changing symptom patterns Adjusting treatment plans thoughtfully Encouraging patients through difficult phases of recovery Partnering with patients in a long-term healing process The Patients We Serve Helixona focuses on patients with complex, multi-system illnesses, including: Mold and environmental toxicity Lyme disease and chronic infections Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) Long COVID and post-viral illness Autoimmune conditions Chronic fatigue and mitochondrial dysfunction Neurological and autonomic disorders Many of these individuals have spent years seeking answers. Compassion, patience, and strong communication are essential for helping patients feel understood and supported. Our Culture Helixona is built around a culture of humility, curiosity, and service. We believe the best medicine happens when clinicians remain open to learning and approach complex illness with thoughtful investigation rather than assumptions. Our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and patient guides work closely together to ensure every patient receives coordinated and compassionate care. This environment rewards clinicians who value collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and meaningful patient relationships. A Note on Fit Helixona is intentionally different from many traditional medical environments. Our patients often require careful investigation, evolving hypotheses, and collaborative problem-solving. Clinicians who thrive here enjoy working through complexity and remain comfortable acknowledging that chronic illness rarely follows simple formulas. This role may not be the right fit for clinicians who prefer high-volume care or highly independent practice without collaboration. However, for those who value thoughtful medicine, systems-based thinking, and the opportunity to help patients who have often been overlooked, this work can be deeply fulfilling. Day-to-Day Responsibilities As an Advanced Practice Provider at Helixona, your role centers on guiding patients through the ongoing phases of their healing journey after their initial diagnostic evaluation with the physician. Your work will focus on monitoring progress, interpreting evolving symptoms, and helping patients navigate treatment safely and effectively. A typical week may include:
