Operating Room Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains patient confidentiality and follows all HIPAA guidelines. Maintains security code on cell phone and HIPAA confidentiality when texting or emailing other providers. (secure email/ TIGER text) Inpatient duties include: Independently performing Initial consult and follow up evaluations within outpatient, Inpatient and Trauma setting: rounding on patients routinely, evaluation and management of patients in emergency room and on surgical floor, assessing and monitoring patients' health and status in collaboration with neurosurgeons and other health care providers Appropriately documenting in hospital EMR, manage preoperative and postoperative orders, management of prescriptions and treatments or studies, clarifying treatment and discharge planning, dictation of discharge summary Coordination of in-hospital care with hospital nursing staff and other services or departments as necessary. Serve as liaison between patients and neurosurgeon. Provide surgical services as first assistant on neurosurgical cases in the operating room.
Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures:
Wound treatments, dressing changes and suture removal Shunt taps and shunt reprogramming Lumbar punctures Head frame application and removal Brace application and removal Clinical duties include: Evaluating new patients, postoperative patients, and routine follow-up patients, formulating treatment plans and ordering appropriate radiographic studies; completing a thorough history and physical examination; presenting the patient to the neurosurgeon if needed Reviewing radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities Properly documenting in EMR Handling prescription refills Triage patients and phone calls appropriately Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, physicians, patients and clients The APP will cover weekend rounds every 3rd Weekend (may be rotated if necessary) in collaboration with the On-Call neurosurgeon. This includes performing hospital rounds on all in-patients, remaining in close contact with the neurosurgeon On-Call and at times may be called in to assist with emergency surgery if necessary. Follow behavior codes as established in the Employee Handbook. These behavior codes include but are not limited to security and confidentiality, office conduct, employee conduct and work rules, the policy on harassment, smoke-free and chemical-free workplace and computer e-mail and internet usage. Speak up about safety issues, change practices to enhance safety, share errors, ask for help when needed, and other elements of shared accountability for safe practices and for patient and employee safety. Complete miscellaneous job-related tasks as directed by the Administrator, and supervising neurosurgeon.
