ABOUT THE POSITION
Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Public Health is seeking a qualified Per Diem Nurse Practitioner I to join the HIV/STD division. The ideal candidate will be a board-certified nurse practitioner with experience in HIV/STD care and primary care, and will demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills while working alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, linkage to care staff, social service providers, communicable disease specialists, nutritionists, and front office personnel. Familiarity with EPIC is preferred; however, training will be provided upon hire if needed. Flexibility to travel between clinic locations in Perris and Indio is also essential. Under medical supervision of a physician and within established written guidelines, positions in this class series perform physical examinations; evaluate patient health and develop diagnoses; perform diagnostic and medical case management services; and perform additional duties as required. Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; follows and initiates orders for administering medications and therapeutic devices to patients. Incumbents of positions in this series are registered nurses with additional preparation and skills in physical diagnosis, psychosocial assessment and management of health illness needs in primary health care and have been prepared in a program conforming to Board standards. The nurse practitioner functions within the scope of practice as specified in the Nursing Practice Act as it applies to all registered nurses. Per Diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments may be on a flexible work hour schedule. Positions in these classes perform the duties specified below in a per diem capacity.
Schedule:
On-call, as needed, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A valid California driver's license is required, as this position involves travel between satellite clinic locations, including Perris and Indio, as needed. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Takes patient health histories; performs physical examinations; records findings and assesses the health status of patients.
  • Identifies abnormalities and/or concerns in physical, mental, emotional, developmental, and psychosocial functioning; orders, reviews and interprets diagnostic and screening procedures.
  • Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; follows orders for administering medications and therapeutic devises.
  • Provides health counseling and educates patients on specific areas related to patient illness/health status.
  • Refers patients for further diagnosis and/or treatment when indicated; identifies patients who require immediate attention of a physician; initiates specified emergency treatment; carries out approved treatment plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
HIV experience is desired, but not required.
Knowledge of:
Techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of personal health problems; principles of health maintenance and disease management; psychosocial assessment; normal growth and development; pathophysiology; pharmacology; nutrition; counseling and health education principles; health care delivery systems; community resources and referrals systems related to health care; legal implications of advance practice roles in nursing; principles of quality assurance.
Ability to:
Provide care to patients with acute and chronic health problems; collaborate with health care team, patients and families to identify and resolve health problems; write clear, concise documentation of patient visits in the medical record; provide independent nursing care; function under standardized protocols; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, health care team and others; analyze situations accurately and take effective courses of action.
License/Certificate:
Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Possession of a certificate authorizing practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of California. Possession of a valid license to furnish medications as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of California. A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
