Job Description

Join Buckelew Programs' new Rising Recovery Center and play a key role in supporting individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges in Marin County. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Rising Recovery Center team. Rising Recovery is a new short-term residential treatment program serving individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). This includes conducting comprehensive assessments, diagnosing co-occurring mental health conditions, managing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and supporting recovery through an integrated, patient-centered approach. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of compassionate, effective, and coordinated care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessment & Diagnosis Conduct comprehensive physical, psychological, and social assessments of patients with SUD. Screen for mental health issues and co-occurring disorders. Formulate diagnoses and develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the care team. Clinical Oversight & Consultation Provide regular and as-needed support to staff on client assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning-particularly for complex or high-needs clients. Serve as a backup to the full-time Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA), conducting initial medical necessity determinations either in person or via telehealth. Medical Monitoring & Collaboration Provide medical monitoring of client care and consult with primary care physicians and other medical providers involved in clients' treatment. Review HVRC's medical policies and standards in compliance with 22 CCR § 51341.1(b)(28)(A)(i)(c). Treatment & Medication Management Prescribe and manage (MAT) medications and support staff with detoxification, withdrawal, and maintenance therapy. Provide direct patient care including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders. Monitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, and patient adherence; adjust plans accordingly. Integrate counseling, psychoeducation, and behavioral interventions into treatment where appropriate. Training & Education Complete a minimum of five hours of continuing medical education in addiction medicine annually (22 CCR § 51341.1(b)(28)(A)(iii)). Lead or support in-service training for staff on the following topics: MAT Medications and/or medications relevant to the program Co-occurring disorders and chronic physical health conditions Challenges faced by aging clients with SUD Internalized stigma as a barrier to recovery Emerging treatment modalities for SUD Korsakoff's Syndrome Ensuring medical care meets the applicable standard of care Physician delegation boundaries Adherence to provider's medical policies and standards Protection of medical decision-making from fiscal influence Training of physicians and LPHAs in SUD diagnosis and medical necessity determinations Ensuring physicians are adequately trained to fulfill their duties Team Collaboration Work in partnership with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other specialists to ensure continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and clinical case discussions. Patient Education & Advocacy Educate patients and families about substance use disorders, treatment options, and recovery resources. Advocate for patients' access to supportive services and promote harm reduction strategies. Documentation & Compliance Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with HIPAA, clinical, legal, and organizational standards. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, clinical protocols, and best practice guidelines. Education & Licensure Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program required. Active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license. Current DEA registration with MAT-prescribing eligibility. Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred. Certification or specialization in Addiction Medicine highly desirable. Experience Experience working in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, or a related healthcare setting strongly preferred. Familiarity with harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing is a plus. Skills & Abilities Clinical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Competence in performing physical exams, ordering diagnostic tests, and interpreting results. Skilled in motivational interviewing, patient education, and culturally responsive care. Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Valid California driver's license, insurable driving record, and a personal vehicle with current insurance required. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands repetitively for documentation and patient care tasks. Manual dexterity to operate medical and office equipment. Clear verbal and auditory communication with patients and staff. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Travel may be required between clinics or community-based sites.
