A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner provides mental health and nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. Diagnoses mental illness, develops treatment plans and prescribes medications. Teaches patient's family about the patient's condition. Works at hospitals with dedicated mental health unit, fully dedicated psychiatric hospital or in independent practice working from nursing homes and physicians' offices.

Job Description
EDUCATION
Must have a BA or BS in appropriate field and have graduated from a certified physician assistant or nurse practitioner program. Master's degree requiredEXPERIENCE
Must have at least 3-5 years as an advanced practice provider in psychiatry or behavioral health care.LICENSURE
Must be licensed in State of CT as an advanced practice provider either as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner or a Physicians Certification. Must hold controlled substance registration and DEA license. Must maintain certification with the appropriate governing body.SPECIAL SKILLS
Must have excellent clinical, verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, develop and lead programs, foster a positive work environment . Strong initiative and excellent leadership skills. Must support an environment of equity and inclusivity for patients and peers.PHYSICAL DEMAND
