Women's Health Nurse Practitioner WHNP • Full-Time or Part-Time Outpatient Obstetrics | High-Risk OB | Gynecology About the Practice Sholes Center for Women's Health is a physician-led OB/GYN practice in Athens, Georgia, providing personalized obstetric and gynecologic care to women across Clarke, Oconee, Madison, Barrow, and surrounding counties. Our clinical team includes two physicians (including a part-time physician) and one Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, supported by in-office high-risk ultrasound technicians. Deliveries are performed by the physicians at St. Mary's Hospital. We are seeking an additional Women's Health Nurse Practitioner to join a collaborative, patient-centered team. Position Summary We are hiring a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner for a full-time or part-time position. This is an outpatient-only clinic role. There is no hospital coverage, no labor-and-delivery call, and no rounding required. Ideal candidates have labor and delivery nursing experience, comfort managing high-risk obstetric patients in collaboration with the physicians, and strong skills in annual gynecologic examinations and treatment of common GYN conditions. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive outpatient obstetric care including prenatal visits, risk assessment, ongoing pregnancy monitoring, and postpartum follow-up in collaboration with the physicians. Co-manage high-risk obstetric patients in the office setting (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, preterm labor risk, multiples, thyroid disorders, and other medical complications of pregnancy), with support from in-office high-risk ultrasound technicians. Perform annual well-woman examinations, including breast and pelvic exams, Pap smears, and evidence-based screening. Evaluate and treat common gynecologic conditions such as vaginitis, STIs, irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, contraception counseling, and menopausal symptoms. Counsel patients on family planning, contraception (pills, IUD, Nexplanon, injectable, and other methods), and preconception health. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory studies, imaging, and antenatal testing; communicate results and care plans clearly. Document accurately in the electronic medical record and participate in coding/quality workflows as part of the care team. Collaborate closely with two physicians, the existing WHNP, ultrasound technicians, medical assistants, and office staff to ensure coordinated, timely care. Share after-hours telephone call coverage with the provider team: approximately 1 weekend per month and about 6-8 weeks of weekday after-hours phone coverage per year. Phone coverage only — no hospital call, deliveries, or rounding. Required Qualifications Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Women's Health Nurse Practitioner program. Current national certification as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC) through NCC (or eligible and willing to obtain before start). Current, unencumbered Georgia RN license and Georgia APRN authorization (or eligible; compact/endorsement candidates welcome). BLS certification (ACLS preferred). Comfortable independently performing annual GYN examinations and managing common gynecologic conditions. Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, and commitment to compassionate, individualized patient care. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as a labor and delivery nurse (strongly preferred). Clinical experience with high-risk obstetrics / antepartum care. Prior WHNP or women's health NP experience in an OB/GYN office setting. Georgia DEA registration (or willingness to obtain). Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or similar EMR systems. Schedule, Setting & Compensation Full-time or part-time; schedule is flexible and can be structured around clinic needs and candidate availability. Outpatient clinic only. Weekday office hours. No hospital coverage, no L&D call, and no inpatient rounding. Physician deliveries are at St. Mary's Hospital.
After-hours phone coverage is shared:
about 1 weekend per month plus approximately 6-8 weeks of after-hours weekday phone call per year. Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and FTE (full-time or part-time).
