WHAT YOU'LL DO
Perform comprehensive medical evaluations, patient histories, and physical examinations. Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic medical conditions. Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Prescribe, monitor, and manage medications within scope of practice, including medications used for withdrawal management and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical response and ongoing assessment. Evaluate and manage withdrawal symptoms and identify patients requiring additional medical intervention or a higher level of care. Collaborate closely with physicians, registered nurses, therapists, case managers, recovery support professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Review laboratory results, diagnostic testing, medication records, and consultation reports. Provide timely assessment and intervention during medical or behavioral health emergencies. Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, case reviews, and care coordination activities. Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatment options, health conditions, recovery, and wellness. Participate in discharge planning and support continuity of care with outside providers when appropriate. Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries in accordance with
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and organizational policies. Support quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and accreditation readiness initiatives. Follow applicable state and federal regulations, professional practice standards, and organizational policies. Participate in on-call or after-hours clinical coverage as assigned. Perform other clinical responsibilities and projects as needed.

You are comfortable managing complex patients, making sound clinical decisions, and working collaboratively across medical and behavioral health disciplines. You balance clinical autonomy with teamwork and understand the importance of communication, documentation, patient safety, and continuity of care in a substance use disorder treatment environment.
REQUIREMENTS
Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required. Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Iowa required. Current Iowa prescriptive authority as required for the position. Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances, or ability to obtain prior to providing services requiring DEA registration. Current national board certification appropriate to the individual's specialty and scope of practice, such as: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Current BLS certification required. Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, prescribing, and documentation skills. Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Preferred Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, detoxification, withdrawal management, residential treatment, or psychiatry. Experience prescribing and managing medications used in Medication-Assisted Treatment. Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care. Experience caring for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Experience working within a Joint Commission-accredited healthcare or behavioral health environment.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position primarily works within an inpatient behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment environment. The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, computer use, and interaction with patients and members of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Team members must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation. The Nurse Practitioner must be able to respond appropriately to medical emergencies and may work with individuals experiencing withdrawal symptoms, behavioral health crises, psychiatric emergencies, or other acute clinical concerns.
