Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, Inc. in our new Spencer Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to underserved communities. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will deliver mental health services across the lifespan, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management for patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care :
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including psychotherapy and psychopharmacological interventions. Provide ongoing medication management and adjustments as needed. Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical outcomes. Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care as required.
Collaboration :
Work closely with primary care providers, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. Provide consultation and education to healthcare staff regarding mental health conditions, treatments, and medications.
Patient Education :
Educate patients and their families about psychiatric conditions, treatment options, and medications. Promote mental health awareness and stigma reduction within the community.
Compliance & Documentation :
Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records in accordance with federal, state, and organizational policies. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including FQHC standards and guidelines. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in psychiatric care.
Qualifications:
Education :
Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a specialty in Psychiatric-Mental Health.
Licensure/Certification :
Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Iowa or ability to obtain. Board Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). DEA registration and prescriptive authority in Iowa or ability to obtain.
Experience :
Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric/mental health care, preferably in a community health or underserved setting.
Skills :
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in children and adults. Proficiency in psychopharmacology and medication management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Cultural competence and a commitment to serving diverse populations.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves a diverse patient population, including those with limited access to healthcare. Work hours may include evenings to meet patient needs.
