Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner, After Hours Care, PRN supports timely evaluation and treatment for patients who need care outside standard office hours, practicing in alignment with State of Indiana guidelines and the applicable employee agreement.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conduct focused histories and physical exams; perform clinical assessment and diagnostic decision-making
  • Develop treatment plans, prescribe/coordinate therapies within scope, and document thoroughly in the EHR (Cerner)
  • Provide clear patient communication, discharge guidance, and education tailored to health literacy
  • Collaborate as needed with clinic and hospital resources while functioning independently in an after-hours setting Required qualifications/skills:
  • BSN required; MSN preferred; current Indiana NP licensure
  • Minimum 3 years professional nursing experience and 2 years nurse practitioner experience
  • Strong assessment/diagnostic skills; excellent patient education and communication

Shift Snapshot You arrive for a PRN shift (Monday-Friday 1 pm-9 pm or weekends 9 am-5 pm) and review the clinic schedule and any pending results. The pace is steady and varied-patients may present with new concerns that require prompt triage, clear explanations, and practical next steps. Between visits, you update documentation, follow up on key findings, and coordinate any needed referrals or higher-level care. As the shift progresses, you maintain a calm, organized workflow, ensuring each patient leaves with understandable instructions and an appropriate plan. Minimum availability is one weekday and one weekend shift per month, supporting reliable after-hours access for the community.
