Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant (PA) or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our Neonatology service in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The candidate will work directly alongside board-certified neonatologists and be responsible for the care of newborns in the Level III NICU and the Well-Baby Nursery. The candidate will receive full training in newborn assessment, documentation, and newborn care workflows, including performing History & Physicals (H&P), daily progress notes, and discharge summaries if not experienced. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in newborn care and neonatology, with a supportive team and structured onboarding. Key Responsibilities Provide medical care for newborns in the Level III NICU and the Well-Baby Nursery under the supervision of neonatologists. Perform newborn H&Ps, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries following hospital and medical staff guidelines. Perform neonatal procedures, e.g. endotracheal intubations, thoracentesis, chest tube placements, umbilical line placements, PICC placements, IV and arterial lines. Will train if needed. Conduct newborn assessments including vital signs, feeding evaluation, jaundice screening, and routine newborn exams. Identify newborns who require escalation of care and promptly communicate with the neonatology team. Participate in newborn rounds with neonatologists and nursing staff. Communicate effectively with parents about newborn care, feeding, follow-up, and discharge instructions. Collaborate with obstetric, nursing, and lactation teams to support safe care transitions. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in required training, competency assessments, and annual skills reviews. Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program or equivalent Nursing Program Current PA-C certification (NCCPA). Eligible for Kentucky PA licensure. New graduates welcome—full training will be provided. NICU and/or Nursery experience preferred but not required. Skills & Competencies Strong interest in newborn and pediatric care. Excellent clinical assessment and documentation skills. Ability to work independently after orientation, with neonatologist backup always available. Strong communication skills with families and multidisciplinary teams. Professionalism, reliability, and teamwork. Schedule & Work Environment Hospital-based role in the Well-Baby Nursery and NICU 24 hour rotation with 2 other mid level providers.
