POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position will work closely with the Pueblo of Pojoaque Behavioral Health team to provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management services for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing mental health and substance use disorders. The Contract Psychiatric Provider will support a treat-first, trauma-responsive model of care, providing timely access to psychiatric services without unnecessary barriers. Services include comprehensive psychiatric assessments, medication for mental health conditions, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD) for substance use disorders. The provider will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, case managers, peer support specialists, and community partners to ensure coordinated, culturally responsive care. Pojoaque Behavioral Health is a small, community-centered program that emphasizes accessibility and relationship-based care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessments and treatment planning Provide ongoing medication management for mental health and substance use disorders Prescribe and manage medications, including MOUD (e.g., buprenorphine) when appropriate Support crisis intervention and stabilization when needed Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate care and support integrated treatment planning Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with legal, ethical, and funding requirements Participate in case consultation and team meetings as needed Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, particularly within a tribal and rural community context Offer both in-person and telehealth services based on client and program needs Support development of psychiatric protocols, workflows, and best practices as the program growsSCOPE AND EXPECTATIONS
Flexible scheduling based on program needs (e.g., weekly clinic days, telehealth blocks) Expected to maintain a consistent panel of clients for psychiatric services Coordinate closely with Behavioral Health leadership regarding scheduling, caseload, and service delivery Maintain all required licensure, certifications, and prescribing credentials Comply with all applicable federal, state, and tribal regulationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
MD, DO, or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Current, unrestricted license to practice in the State of New Mexico DEA registration and ability to prescribe controlled substances Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric experience preferred Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Experience working in community-based or rural settings preferred Experience working with Native American communities preferred Proficiency with electronic health records Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills Ability to maintain strict confidentialityPROGRAM SUPPORTS PROVIDED
