A Nurse Practitioner provides primary care and nursing care to patients. Performs physical exams, orders diagnostic tests, and provides medications. Works in a physician's office or other healthcare facility, under the direction of a physician. Performs work similar to that of a physician assistant but has different medical training and degree.
Position Overview We are seeking a skilled, dedicated, and compassionate Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to provide comprehensive clinical oversight and medical care within our 24/7 residential detox and substance use disorder treatment setting. Guided strictly by ASAM Criteria , you will lead the acute stabilization phase, managing clients through withdrawal with empathy, evidence-based treatment, and clinical excellence. This role reports directly to the Medical Director and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team of Program Director, Medical Assistant, therapist, direct care staff and peer support workers. What You Will Do (Essential Duties)
Medical Clearance & Intake:
Perform comprehensive physical examinations and clinical reviews to safely clear clients entering withdrawal management.
Withdrawal Monitoring:
Conduct structured client assessments using objective scoring tools ( CIWA-Ar, COWS ) to guide safe stabilization.
MAT & Medication Management:
Prescribe, manage, and monitor evidence-based Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) including Buprenorphine, Naltrexone, and specific tapering protocols.
Diagnostics:
Order, review, and interpret lab diagnostics, imaging, and testing to form sound clinical management plans.
Clinical Charting:
Maintain documentation excellence with complete and accurate clinical charting in the EHR system within 24 hours of client contact.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Participate in mandatory weekly team meetings with Program Director, medical assistant, clinical counselors and case managers to ensure holistic, multi-faceted client care. What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
Education:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited institution.
Licensure:
Current, active, and unrestricted license as a CNP or FNP in the State of New Mexico (Required).
Credentials:
Active DEA registration and New Mexico Controlled Substance License (Required).
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in primary patient care or acute medical settings. Experience in substance use disorders (SUD), behavioral health, or detoxification systems is highly preferred.
Life Support:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; ACLS preferred.
Tech Savvy:
Operational proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office 365.
Compliance:
Familiarity with New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) behavioral health regulations and HIPAA privacy standards. Physical Demands & Work Environment This position operates within a 24/7 residential medical facility. Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting to 50 lbs. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and unpredictable behaviors characteristic of acute withdrawal settings.
