Nurse Practitioner (Part Time, Per Diem)

Summary

Administers routine and emergency medical care to students through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up; appropriately documents patient visits

Essential Job Functions

Utilizes clinical knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat students for illnesses and injuries, and refers cases for more advanced treatments outside the university as necessary

Performs health assessments and gynecological exams, conducts medical tests, and documents patient data

Orders and reviews necessary lab, x-ray and other diagnostic testing, and follows up with patients to discuss results

Dispenses and prescribes medications according to medical standards and patient needs

Processes and reviews medical records and documents clinical visits in the university's electronic medical record system, in accordance with department of health regulations and university policies

Collaborates with the medical providers and staff nurses to provide high-quality patient care and to maintain office workflow

Assists with campuswide initiatives and educational programs about health-related matters, such as smoking cessation, residential health education programming, and immunization and communicable disease control, to educate students and promote healthy practices on campus

Serves on various health- and wellness-focused university committees

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a master's degree in nursing or a related field of study Moderate amount of experience in nursing or other related experience

Registered nurse practitioner's license (R.N.P.) with prescriptive privileges in the state of Rhode Island
